Chelsea monitoring Moyes's contract situation

20/01/2013 | Comments (47)
Chelsea are keeping a close eye on whether David Moyes signs a new contract at Everton as they draw up a list of candidates to replace Rafa Benitez and succeed Roberto diMatteo on a permanent basis when the season finishes.

After initially steadying the ship at Stamford Bridge and lifting Chelsea back into the top three in the Premier League, Benitez has come under pressure for poor results in recent games.

Now, according to The Telegraph, Moyes has moved up the list of potential candidates now that Pep Guardiola has joined Bayern Munich, although a return for Jose Mourinho might be Roman Abramovich's most desired outcome.

Peter Barry, and why not? He's in a win win situation. If he goes in and does good, then everyone will say we knew he would if given the money; and if he doesn't, they will just say he was not given enough time. I also think he would do a good job. But I think he will go to Germany.

Find this very unlikely. Not sure they would want him and not sure he would want such a poisoned chalice.

Why would any manager want the post of Chelsea post other than the pay off when your sacked? Plus would Moyes risk his reputation for such a role? I really don't think so.

Jose the special one MacArthur will return, it will be spiritual home blah blah, bygones will be bygones blah blah... Until the next time the Chairman buys a player the coach didn't want and doesn't fit the team dynamic... You're the coach, coach him to fit in.

Maybe we'll get the Fat Spanish Waiter in return.

If he thinks he's getting abuse now, can ya imagine what he'd get at Goodison.

More transfer gossip: I read that Guardiola might want to take Suarez to Bayern Munich. That would be good news: (a) because he is utterly loathsome, and (b) because he's very good and losing him would harm the Reds.

Mr Guardiolia, if you're reading this – which you surely must be (everyone reads Toffeeweb, right) – Suarez is a model pro and as honest as the day is long. He won't cause you any problems and he certainly won't make Bayern the most hated team in Germany. Buy him!

Bayern Munich are already intensely disliked in Germany so it won't bother them... but could they take him now rather than wait until July???

Would Moyes be as daft as that?

I bow to your superior knowledge of Germany football, Patrick. Still, it would be good to get rid of the little rat.

I spent a week in Munchen/Munich many years ago. The sum of my local knowledge is this: over there, a Twix is called a Raider. Bizarre! It should be the other way round, what with Raider being an English word and Twix not. Fascinating stuff...

Dragging this back to football. my prediction for next Premier League manager to be sacked is... Alan Pardew. How the Newcastle board must be regretting that eight-year contract now.

@Kev #971 – why has a chant not started about Suarez / Esther Rantzen? I'd hate for that opportunity to be missed if he went to Germany.

Would Chelsea be as daft as that? Yes apparently they are looking for a top manger that has won loads of things!!! DM was seen at the pleasure beach where he won a buzz lightyear from the grabber, so he has won something!. I am sure DM could be good; however, he is untried at a level with large amounts of cash.

You must admit he would do good for them though! I personally think so anyway. But I do hope he signs a new deal with us!

Thing with Abramovich is, he likes a foreign coach, preferably a big-name one, and I don't think Moyes is even on his radar to become Chelsea's manager.

And tbh, I'm not so sure Moyesie would want to go to Chelsea and be told who he buys and who he can keep or has to sell, with the feeling that, if things don't go well straight away or he as a bad run of say 4 to 5 games during the season, then he could be sacked; I'm not sure he'd want that?!

Then again, he gets told he has to sell players here at Everton to balance the books!

982 Posted 20/01/2013 at 12:07:56
This could work well. Moyes goes, Kenwright's heat shield gone. Everton's on-field performance mirrors that of the off-field shambles. Kenwright forced to accept a realistic price for the club. New owners, and Moyes brought back as manager having already been sacked by Chelsea due to refusing to play Torres up front as he's gash. Everyone's a winner!

Ian Bennett

Kev 976 - perhaps when pardew was describing Newcastle in a different league, he was looking at championship crystal ball. Champions league/championship is easily misinterpreted.

Clive – all Chelsea appointments are temporary.

I would imagine this is quite tempting to Moyes; he would have money to burn but I don't think he would be able to handle the egos. He also seems to perform better as a manager when he hasn't got lots of money to spend. I don't think Moyes will be leaving us anytime soon.
Kev Johnson

If the transfer goes ahead, "Rattenjunge ist ein schmutziger Betrugbastard!" is destined to be a popular chant across Germany. (Thanks to Google Translate.)

Ian – good point. The problem for Newcastle is that they cannot possibly afford to sack him. Mind you, it's poor Dan Gosling I feel sorry for. Boo-hoo.

If Moyes were drawing up a list of prospective EPL moves what would it look like in order....?

Man Utd
Arsenal
Man City
Spurs
Chelsea?

I reckon it'd be something like that weighing up the stability, funds, potential etc?

So which one, if any, are ever going to take a punt on him?

You'd have to be fucking insane to go and work for that meglomaniac! One defeat and a couple of draws into the start of the season and Moyes would be gone by the end of September.

As Gary Neville said in his Mail on Sunday column this morning, roman has run out of managers to sack. I'm sure Moyes wouldn't want to be another notch on the Russian's bedpost. Why doesn't he just cut out the middle man and make himself manager? He practically is anyway... Dickhead!

Peter Barry, I suspect you're still laughing now I am as I'm typing this. There is absolutely no chance of Moyes going to Chelsea or any club that demands attacking football and almost instant success. There is no mystery to Moyes's refusal in signing a new contract: it will be done at the end of the season when it appears we all want him to stay (as perceived by the media).

If Moyes wants a good pay-off after one season with Chelsea, he should go for it. But if wants to be in regular work for the next 5 years, at least, where his family is settled, he should stay at Everton. That goes for managing abroad.
Clive Lewis
096 Posted 20/01/2013 at 17:54:28
Ian 996 Well there are temporary and then there are big pay off temporary. You would not want to give Moyes 2 or 3 years contract and he wouldn't sign if not. None of the top paid managers will take a temporary contract, that includes Moyes. However he could get a large payoff clause, but would you gamble with Moyes on such a contract? I didn't realise Di Matteo had a 2-year deal and did really well from it: a £7 million pay-off:

Spurs clearly didn't think Moyes was so great... not sure why really, considering the facts. There must be a bagload of managers who have won something major. The problem is the red shite pundits and media trying to big him up.
Steve Smith
180 Posted 20/01/2013 at 22:58:57
It's clear that Abramovich likes a foreign coach in charge, Moyes passes this test easily, Abramovich won't have a fucking clue what he's saying, which could be good for Moyes's longevity in the job (it could easily go right up to six months, I reckon).

Seriously though, I do thinks Moyes wants out at the end of this season, and only finishing fourth or higher will keep him here, imo. He knows that, without CL football next season, we will loose at least two of our major players and possibly more, I'm not sure Moyes has got the motivation to start rebuilding again... I can't see him going to Chelsea though.

There is no way at all that (1) Moyes will be the next Chelski gaffer or that (2) Sewer-rat will end up at Munchen.

Moyes has zilch experience of spending mega sponds; he is nothing like the Russian's type; he is too sensible to swap his safe feathered nest for the Chelski lottery; just a hunch, he don't like London; just a hunch, he probably leans to the view that the Russian and his sort are not that good for footie when all is said and done.

Moyes is more meat and potatoes (he sort of reminds me of that old Spitting Image spoof of John Major eating dinner with Norma. "Mmmmm, these peas are good, are they different from the ones we had yesterday, mmmm" ... (clock ticking, only sound in room)

As for gutter fucker, I still like to think that there are one or two decent dignified gaffers around, we have one of them and there would be a jarring inconsistency between Pep's character as player and coach and all the good work he does off the pitch (some of which is with Messi) and the sewer-rat. I know fooite comes first and sewer-rat is up there, but I don't think that Pep would put up with him, though I pray that I am wrong.

I don’t know why people here find the suggestion so laughable. If it happens, I hope there will be a few people humble enough to put their hands up.

I think a lot of people here are second guessing A man who is quite unpredictable. I mean Grant was plucked from nowhere - ok he was Jewish and Russian which helped a lot, but it was still a surprising roll of the dice. Honestly, it would not surprise me at all if Chelsea made a move for Moyes.

I would guess, Mourino and Hiddick top his list….. Capello thereafter maybe…… but still, Moyes may be in his sights.

I wish he would hurry up and put pen to paper for us.

You only have to ask yourself one question:

"Would the owners and supporters of Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal or Spurs put up with a constant diet of boring suicidal KITAP1?"

Of course not... and that's why he (Moyes) will never go to any one of them.

Predictable Peter, move into the 2012-13 season with us. You'll be able to enjoy attacking football and lots of shots on goal (pity most don't trouble the keeper) You will see that we have only failed to score twice this season and last week was our first 0 - 0 game.

Come on lad, join us and you may laugh even more.

(I doubt it because even though we have only lost 3 times, I still consider this to be a disappointing season thus far and me being a Moyesophile?? and you being part of the MOB... I can't see the beginning of a beautiful friendship.)
