Moyes looking to strengthen at right back

28/01/2013 | Comments (14)
In addition to Barnsley's John Stones, who was linked with Everton yesterday, The Guardian report that David Moyes is looking at 19 year-old Leeds United right back Sam Byram, although there is no mention in the report by Andy Hunter that Byram signed a new deal at Elland Road just two days ago.

The report also substantiates claims made elsewhere that Moyes is considering a move for out-of-favour Borussia Moenchengladbach striker Igor De Camargo.

Hasn't Sam Byram just signed a new contract with Leeds only a few days ago?

Hmmm... you're right, Phil. Two days ago, in fact, according to Sky. I've updated the article above to reflect that.

Like the other Leeds teen full back who has done exactly what since he arrived a couple of years ago?

Yes, I do know that in a perfect monied world we would have depth all over the pitch, but at this particular point in time when we are not swimming in sponds (although 'The Bouncer' news is very good and might suggest pockets are deeper than we think, though the fee is in installments, right?) we need more than ever to prioritize.

Right back does not seem to me at any rate to be a screaming priority, thought it's always nice to think ahead. Hopefully 'The Bouncer' is in the bag, so now it's a striker and cover/replacement for our flapping and flailing goalie (who, to be fair, has looked much better for two games now).

I have a feeling that we will all be feeling a tad better when the clock strikes midnight on Thursday.

Whatever happened to the young reserve right back from a couple of years ago? His name eludes me. May have been short and unusual. He played with Duffy, Wallace, Baxter, Forshaw & Co... Looked and moved like Pele. Had the same stride pattern and appeared to be a bright prospect. Such a shame he didn't make it.

Talking of Forshaw... How on earth did it go wrong for this very talented young lad.? Experts predicted a successful career but, on another thread, someone said he has moved to a small club. If so I wish him well.

A nice surprise this Leroy Fer thing. Similar to Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe and exactly what we need. Let's hope 28 is not his lucky number... Vic's got it!!! One thing is certain... The ladies will luv him.

Harold, Tyias Browning? Can't think of any other reserve right backs we have had over last few years.

Surely Coleman is nailed on for right back, I know he had a few dodgy patches but his last 3 games or so he looked the real deal and this is only his first season in the premier league at right back.

Forshaw played in Brentford`s Cup draw with Chelsea on Sunday and got rave reviews in several papers. But for us just another ship that passed in the night. It will be interesting to see if his performance attracts attention from bigger clubs.

Garbutt went out on loan to Cheltnham last season and helped take them to the play-offs. He probably would have gone out again this season except that he has been out injured.

He's only 19 and tipped to be a good player, but has Baines in his path. Tough break!

Sam. Tylas does ring a bell. Thanks. Not many make these days The required standard is so high. Plus, of course, the massive influx of young players from abroad.

I would never knock Hibbert but you are right. Coleman is a fine talent with a great Irish fighting spirit and the greatest asset of all. Hunger. He is determined to improve and succeed and your forecast "nailed on" seems to suit.

Thanks Phil. Forshaw at Brentford eh. Holy smoke, I missed that one. Must try to look it up. Rave reviews too. Good for him but how he slipped through the net is quite puzzling.

Forshaw did very well, it was his determined lunge tackle which lead to the Brentford goal. Good player but like Baxter not quite good enough. Just an inferior Osman.

I remember being impressed by Forshaw in that Bate Borisov game a few years back, the one where we played Hibbo, Thingy in goal and nine kids. He was the only one who stood out. Still, there's a big distance between showing a few silky skills and making it in the cut and thrust world of grown-up football.

I might be wrong but I thought that, like Baxter, he preferred to move on to pastures new instead of renewing his contract with little hope of playing for our first team?

(I just hope Leroy Fey doesn't graze his knee and then move on to pastures new... Sorry, I couldn't stop myself!)

I wonder what would have happened Luke Garbutt if he remained at Leeds? Probably, playing championship football at the moment with Leeds. He cost about £600k when he signed for Everton. But appears to have gone backwards football wise. Although out injured at the moment.

Alan Hutton, looks like he is on his way to Spain (Real Mallorca) on a loan deal.

Could have been a better short-term solution for cover at RB to get us out of a hole for the rest of the season.
