Sky Sports are reporting that Everton have had a bid accepted by Barnsley for right back John Stones.

Wigan Athletic looked set to land the 18 year-old earlier with reports that they had had a similar offer accepted by the Championship side but the Blues appear to be in pole position.

It'd be a good signing, we clearly need a right back, given the injuries to an ageing Tony Hibbert, an unproven Seamus Coleman (as a solid right back) and the fact that many are calling for Phil Neville to retire.

This lad could be out number two for the next ten years.

We certainly need a fit right back now, especially if it allows Jags and Distin to keep Heitinga away from the centre back spot.

Anthony he is not going to give us that extra push for a top 4 finish though. This buy is something we should be doing through the summer. Right now this is a total waste of money.....

Paul, I never intimated he would be the player we need for the push for Europe.

However, I think we will have only paid about £1m up front based on what I've read, with £2m more to be paid on the drip.

We will still have most of the Leroy Fer budget available for a midfielder or a striker.

There's no way Stones will be the only face in the door this evening.

Never seen him play, but I bet he is an improvement on Sheitinga

Lets not forget, we need a right back NOW!

Jags and Distin need to be centre backs and last night proved how Heitinga could cost is points.

Be positive lads! There's a long night ahead.

Very good player by all accounts, but no, not what we really need at this present time, with a good solid midfielder that would allow Neville to fill the RB slot where I feel is his best position at this stage in his career.

Time is ticking on the the careers of Neville and Hibbert but I don't think an 18 year old RB is priority even with all other right backs injured. I think its unlikley Moyes would put an 18 year old in ahead of a Dutch International for a team challanging for the top 4.

I wish the lad well, but have a nagging feeling it'll be "someone for the future" who will lose their youthful zest for the game, losing confidence, cemented in the reserves.

Hope I'm proved wrong by the lad.

hey look - apart from the colour,Barnsley have the same cheap looking kit we have, that we were so glad to get from Nike, who only back the best, of course!

Has anyone actually seen him play.

I hear he's 6ft2. Is he fast? A wing back or a more traditional full back?

Is he going to be pushing the first team now or is he 'one for the future'?

Southampton snd Swansea have brilliant 17 yr old fullbacks. In fact, Luke Shaw (Saints) never gave our rightside a kick of the ball.

On the other hand, this Barnsley lad may never even make the bench.

5 hours to decide whether we sink or swim Surely they realise that between now and the end of the season there will be many injuries. I hope and pray they are not about to let us down.

Come on BK. Come on DM. Time to show us what you've been hiding up your sleeves. Give us a Star.

Who cares, did we really need to do this deal now ? It's not like he's gonna play this season or next. How about signing an actual first team player.

Peter Thistle, this lad will strengthen the reserves for years to come. He will give the supporters and the other players a lift. Champions league here we come.

I agree, a good addition to the club but hardly got me jumping for joy. If that's the only business we do this window then David Moyes and Bill have themselves to blame. Too little too late I'm afraid.

Wow. With all due respect, he might be a good prospect... blah, blah... but not the marquee I was hoping for.

In the words of The Equals (or was it the foundations?) "Why do you build me up?"

Very disappointing so far, only 1hour 2 go and all we have so is a 18 year old kid, I was expecting abit more than this

Listen, we are fifth with our current squad and with Hibbert, Coleman and Gibson to come back to full fitness soon, we can push for fourth.

What's the problem?

I admit, I was hoping for Vadis or a striker, but I'm not crying. I think we are strong enough, for now.

I really thought we were going to get a nice surprise from the club, an exciting addition.

Stones will be a quality signing which I'm pleased about but another would've been terrific.

On the bright side, though, super Baines and Felli staying put... COYB!!

Forget the window it's gone!!

What we need now is Mr Moyes to sign to commit! If he does not, how can he expect the players? I want him to sign now! If not, there is life after Moyes – I think he's the sixth-best paid in the world?

So step up, Mr Laudrup, Mr Martinez etc... — Just my thoughts after watching the Villa game!
