McGeady bid in the summer...

21/02/2013 | Comments (22)
Everton are lining up summer bid for Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady, according to Russian newspaper Izvestia.

David Moyes is a big fan of the former Celtic star, but club's difficult financial situation prevented him from making a move on the player in the past.

With Everton likely to cash in on Marouane Fellaini in the summer, the Scottish manager should have more than enough funds to launch a bid for McGeady (if Moyes is still the Everton manager).

The player's agent says his client is currently happy in Moscow, but states that he would welcome any offer from the English Premier League.

“Aiden has a contract with Spartak, which he will honour as a professional,” Jan Dreyer explained to Izvestia.

“If Aiden receives a very serious offer from England that suits the club chiefs, we will certainly consider it.”

Aiden McGeady joined Spartak in a €12 million move from Celtic back in 2010, and has since scored 8 goals in 52 Russian Premier League appearances.

He has missed a big part of the current season due to various ailments, but, nonetheless, managed to net 3 times in 10 league matches.

I don't think he is good enough for us. A fit Peanuts and KM for me every time.

Another Naismith.

Don't do it pls. I've seen McGeady a ton and whereas he can pull if some rather stellar moves he holds onto the ball so long it's agonizing.

He's not a fit for Everton IMO.

Sounds like another injury liability, we've enough of those already

I am a simple soul rarely having read let alone understood a company report but I get the impression from a fair number of TW contributors that they have looked at EFCs published accounts and from their responses seem to have some idea of what is going on. Can they tell me what the board say when DM (or indeed his replacement if he goes) asks them "How much money have I got to spend". By that I mean is there any scope to increase our wage bill? Will there be spare cash generated by Skys extra funds to fund a purchase or two?

Izvestia, the paper with the direct pipeline to the inner workings of Everton Football Club. How on Earth does this garbage make it into print?

As we have, Mirallas, Pienaar, Naismith, and Coleman who can all play in wide positions, I think we should focus on bringing someone who can Join Jela/Vic Upfront, Shane Long or Benteke would be ideal for me.

I remember the last time we bought a player from the Russian league, that went really well...

He's a headless chicken who flatters to deceive. I've watched him play. His typical play is bursting forward at what at the time looks like a promising attack and when he does get upfront he proceeds to lose the ball, misplaces a pass or crosses it poorly. Not good enough for Everton.

No end product with this guy. There's a reason he went to the Russian league.

Don't need another non scorer, we have Osman, Pienaar. We need two better mids, who don't get bumped off the ball at the first instance and can shoot and score from edges of the box. Then a striker with good foot skills that can take on a defender, beat them and smash it home.
That way when oppositions mark Felli and our left side out of the game, we still have scoring options. Am I hoping for to much?

I'd rather we go back in for Fer and depending how much money we have depends on how many players we go for. I personally think we need a decent back up GK, a very good CB, a very good CM and at least 1 very good CF to give us the firepower to turn draws into wins. If we sold Fellaini, I think we could get those players.

If Moyes (or new boss) gets a big chunk of the TV money then I think we could maybe get those players. If we sell Fellaini AND Moyes gets the TV money – we're laughing!

I would rather we kept Fellaini though and see what money Moyes gets first before seeing where it should go. Although, I don't want that to drag on. What we must do this summer is identify who we want and get them EARLY!!!

Here's a link to an unusual Birthday Card given to Tony Hibbert.

8 goals in 52 games.

at least he's more prolific than our current strikers.

His injuries make me wonder why we are interested in him...after the FER fiasco ????

Whats wrong with using this loan period to bring in a couple of players for the run in...
Where is Ofoe BTW ?????

We loan OUT in shedloads...what about loaning IN ?
We need urgent help for this last dozen or so games.

Trevor. Premier league clubs not allowed to loan in players after transfer window shuts (unless emergency GK I think).

This boy had serious potential, but his career has stalled. Beats people for fun but his final ball lets him down 90% of the time. I'd rather we stayed well clear...

We have greater areas of concern, ie Goalkeeper... Jack Butland, anyone? Ohhhhh... wait, we couldn't be that clever — and another striker.

Another brain-dead jock (nothing against jocks, like). He would suit Moyes down to the ground — exactly his type of player.

I Can't see there being much in this though, if I'm honest, because I don't think Moyes will be here in the summer

Izvestia, the paper of the Petrograd soviet; that's good enough for me.
