Chelsea will have to pay big for Fellaini

24/02/2013 | Comments (27)
The press campaign for Marouane Fellaini to join Chelsea continued on Sunday with the People quoting Everton's hairy talisman as saying: “Am I interested in Chelsea? It's normal, right? I've never played in the Champions League!"

“I'm happy here, I know everyone, I get along with my team-mates. It's my home. On the other hand, I also want to take the next step. Fate will decide.

“Everton paid £20 million and do not want to sell me for nothing.

“If a big club wants me, they will have to pay the price.”

We have to cash in as early as possible for as much as possible and spend the funds properly......obvious stated. Spending the funds properly I guess will be a whole new ball game.

I just wonder what next season will bring. We will probably be without Fellaini, Baines and maybe even Mirallas. Moyes will probably be gone and will leave a team that will lose its best players and the regulars of Pienaar, Osman, Neville, Hibbert, Distin, Hitz will be to old to learn new tricks for a fresh Manager. Jags, Coleman and Gibson will be our best 3 players and that is not much to build on. Depressing isn't it?
Maybe with a new Manager Jelavic will start scoring again, Oveido, Barkley and some other promising youngsters might get a chance and our new Manager will get 50 million to spend!!!

Will the new manger get all the money to spend or will the bank take it?

Has any one got any ideas on who the new manger will be? I would have Slaven Bilic.

Where is the figure of £20 million coming from? As far as I remember it we paid £11.5 million for him

More like £15 mil wasn't it?

Pointless even speculating here. Who knows what's happening in the summer. Totally depends on our performance between now and May.

Just looked it up here on Toffeeweb Phil. Apparently it was £12.9 million. The 15 million figure is in Euros.

Although I like Fellaini, there has been too much talk about moving coming from him. Yeah, of course he keeps saying he is an Everton player and he likes it here etc etc... but that doesn't stop him from talking about moving.

If he wants to go, then fine — as long we get the right amount of money, ie, £25M+

Replace him with Michu who I think would move for £12M -£15M.

Phil (286) - "Who knows what's happening in the summer. Totally depends on our performance between now and May".

Disagree We're already past 40 points and won't be relegated, which makes our owners happy and that's that. EFC is their toy to play with, not ours.

Chelsea obviously have the money to "pay big for Fellaini" as do several other clubs across Europe. Narrow thinking on the OP's part that only an EPL club is interested and can pay the freight. Fella might go anywhere.

Can anyone tell me how much we owe the banks and do you think we should clear all monies owed?

But to do this, we will have to sell some of our star players.

Brian, it's anywhere from £45M to £90M depending on how you define it and what you include.

As long the banks continue to loan — and presumably they're slowly pulling out of their crippling crisis mentality — there should be no need to pay the debt down substantially, except where the interest rates are making it difficult to service the debt.

Then it's a case of making sure standard forms of income are maximized — and that's where the club has been hugely let down by the current custodians in terms of merchandising especially.

Selling players to pay down the debt should only be a last resort, and only if the banks gave us no alternative.

Apart from £26m is payable within 12 months of 31st may 2012. The facility should be renewed for another 12 months, but the banks still remain tight on renewing over draft facilities. Let's see how much the overdraft has increased again. The fellaini money after paying out sell on clauses, agents and reducing down the bank isn't going to go a long way.

Fellaini has to be sold. Good player... but worth more in cash than playing ability.

Sell, sell, sell, and let's hope that he shines for what is left of this increasingly frustratingly miserable season. He is not IMO at any rate the top-class player some think, he is too unpredictable for that for me, and liable to show shit judgment and attitude at times: his marking for yesterday's 1st goal, for instance, his assaults on Shawcroft.

25 million sponds would go someway to help the new gaffer rebuild or, if Moyessiah (Glory be to Him) sticks it out for yet another year, help him pick up four or so buys of Mirallas's quality and astuteness that will be worth exceedingly more than 1 Felli for us.

So, Brian, Michael (why are you awake?). and Ian - If Green sells Fella and Baines for 40-50 mill (60 mill?), plus the 40+mill TV money, the banks will be satisfied and Green and whomever pocket a shit-load of cash, no?

Should be a spendable buck or two left over for Moyes' replacement?

We could get around £50M for 3-4 of our best players. If we owe the banks £80M then I would service this debt.

The new manager coming in would have to look at what we have in terms of youth and have an eye for a bargain.

I have resigned myself to the fact that this team and current manager are not good enough and top 4 and the FA Cup is fanciful.

How envious am I at Swansea getting some silverware and qualifying for Europe. We went out at Leeds with a whimper while the man had ambitions of CL football. Get real — we cant compete in the CL as we can't match it with the big boys in the Prem.

Man Utd seem light years ahead of us. More disappointing is the fact that the S will be above us very soon and will have a better chance of getting 4th.

Ian #313, according to the Balance Sheet published by the Club (Sections 9 & 10) of the accounts the amounts falling due for payment within 12 months of May 2012 are
Group £57,166,00
Company £70,643,000

of which overdrafts are
Group £11,015,000
Company £12,510,000

"other loans" are
Group £14,898,000
Company £14,000,000

and in addition the Company owe a significant amount of £21,286,00 to their subsidiaries which are due for repayment by May.

See Notes #15 for the breakdown

What the difference is between the 'Company' and the 'Group' is I don't know, and I have no idea what a susidiary of the Company would be and why we should owe them so much.

Sell him, maybe his replacement will at least be able to mark a man at set pieces, won't take 4 years to 'settle in', won't use the media every other week to push through his move to a champions league club, and will be able to run faster than the average man can walk.

Fellaini is a saleable asset but does anyone really believe we wiil get £25 million for him? A good player no doubt but is he in that bracket yet of top European footballers?

I think Fellaini and Baines would walk straight into the first team of any club in England. Fellaini is the type of player who is really important to teams, particularly in England. He's good with his feet, good with his head, good at tackling, good at passing and gives it his all.

Only recently he has been criticised for looking like he's not bothered but I can understand that, he's only human and has said that he would stay with us if we got to the Champions League only to see the whole team going back to basics and in reverse. He probably is going through the motions and feels a bit fed up with the lack of progression.

People on here have criticised Rooney for leaving and Lescott but both aren't stupid. Look what they've won since. Fellaini and possibly Baines are just the next in what will be a never ending scenario whilst the snakes in the boardroom are still there and the boring old fart is still manager.

Unless Moyes or any other manager at the club gets a serious wad of cash we will always be selling star players one or two at a time every couple of seasons. A wad of cash will give the manage the chance to buy several quality players at once.

The thing with handing Moyes the cash is that he just can't be consistent over the course of a season, from the first game in August to the last game in May. You just get the feeling at the moment that he could have have the Barcelona team along with what we currently have in his squad for next August and still only finish sixth.

Personally, while I would trust him to buy some good players, I just wouldn't trust him with making the most out of any windfall over the course of a season. I think that we just don't have the revenue to keep handing the guy what wen have.

@274 That would be some deal!

I would take a straight swap for Lukaku personally the guy is sheer class. The next Drogba.

Can't keep a player who every couple of months lets slip a "come and buy me" call.

Ditto Lukaku. Plus a couple bucks. Let Lukaka create chances and score goals and Jelavic poach. Naismith can sell coffee in the concession area.

Is Fellaini a world class player, or just a good Premier League player?
