Watford eye Hitzlsperger loan

27/03/2013 | Comments (13)
Watford are reportedly interested in taking Thomas Hitzlsperger on emergency loan until the end of the season to bolster their push for promotion back to the Premier League.

The 30 year-old had his Everton contract extended until the end of the season but has seen very little action and Gianfranco Zola may sound David Moyes out about taking him to Vicarage Road ahead of tomorrow's loan deadline.

I didn't realise the guy is only 30. I would be keen to keep him into next season. With Neville the age he is and Gibson injury prone, Hitzlsperger would be a very useful back up player to have. Whether or not he would be happy with that, considering he is only 30, I wouldn't be sure.

Take Neville instead!

He was happy enough when Moyes pulled him off the scrap heap.

He should have been getting games instead of Neville – that is obvious to everyone on planet earth, apart from David Moyes.

He can pass short, he can hit them long, he has the best shot at the club. He looked like he lacked mobility – but when you compare him to Phil Neville, a waxwork model of his former self – Hitzlsperger surely looks the better option. Also, when he did gather together some level of fitness, he did look a quality player.

I think the loan system in the Championship should be changed next year. Nearly half of Udinese B's squad are loan players from one team, which surely is unfair. They can take Neville but not Der Hammer.

And did you mean tha half of Watford's team is on loan from Udinese?

All in all, a confusing post.

Sorry Phil, I meant that half of the Udinese team is on loan at Watford, hence the reason why I referred to Watford as "Udinese B."
Sorry for any confusion.

Why is it unfair that Watford have loaned Udinese B team players? Far more concerned with the number of players that Chelsea have got playing for their competitors than I am about a mutually beneficial, smart and legal arrangement between two clubs in different countries.

Some of those B team players would be well worth Everton having a look at (Vydra, Abdi, Cassetti), but Chalobah (from Chelsea) is the pick of their loans.

Ross Kerry, thank you for a balanced, fair response to the revolution going on at Watford. As you say, my club is doing nothing wrong. There seems to be a lot of jealous people out there who describe us as cheats or people who bend the rules. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our owners are a footballing family who have years of proven success in the game.

They say success will be longevity in the Premier League and they say Zola fits their vision. I don't see the difference between Rich owners pumping millions into a club and the Pozzos using their footballing resources and scouting network to assemble a team capable of competing in the prem.

We are at last seeing top notch football at Vicarage Road and Hitzlsperger could be the last link in the chain to achieve a place in the top two. Good luck to the Toffees and any club that plays Z-Cars can't be bad :-)

I live in Watford and watch them a lot. Agreed Vydra and Abdi are different class as is Chalobah.

Chalobah is going to be a top player.

I have to state that I feel Moyes has wasted an opportunity with Hitzlsperger in terms of giving him a chance to show his worth.

I feel he has shown glimpses of his ability in his short spells and had he been given a chance in place of the unnatural CM role of Neville, he'd has settled into our pattern long ago.

Instead, he will be released in summer and will show his worth elsewhere.

The problem is that Hitzlsperger is not mobile enough to play the holding midfield role. I know Neville isn't either but Moyes seems blind to that fact. If Osman hadn't been fit for every game, I think Hitzlsperger would've played more.

I remember being disappointed we didn't sign Nigel Reo-Coker, he was available on a free and is 2 years younger then Hitzlsperger. He would've been good cover for Gibson as well.
