Everton lead race to sign Suarez

01/04/2013 | Comments (16)
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has learned that Everton are supposedly leading the race to sign Sporting Lisbon winger Jeffren Suarez.

The talented forward was predicted a bright career when he left Barcelona in the summer of 2011 to join the Lions, but he has had a pretty disappointing start to his spell at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Jeffren went on to make just 23 league appearances in almost two years at the club and is now looking for a new challenge.

According to O Jogo, English Premier League is the most likely destination for the 25-year-old, with Everton reportedly keen.

The Toffees have been keeping close tabs on the Spaniard for over a year now and they finally seem ready to step up their interest in the player.

However, Everton could face a stiff competition from three unnamed Premier League sides, who are also believed to be interested in the highly rated forward.

Why does the press even bother, until the manager situation is sorted out there's not going to be any transfers at the club....

Yeah, thank god we can't afford players of that quality, Alan.

Good little player Jeffren, learnt his trade at Barca. If we can get him we could possibly have him on the left and Kev on the right. He could offer us something different.

If he's made only 23 appearances in two years for Sporting Lisbon, why are we interested?

So some of you wouldn't have the Liverpool version? Don't talk shite. One of the best strikers in the world. If he played for Everton you wouldn't give a shit about his character as long as he put the ball in the back of the net. Don't kid yourselves up. If he leaves Liverpool it will be for a fee in excess of 30M and all the best teams in the world will be after him. That says it all, yeh but we wouldn't have him cos he's a little shit, yeh!

On Suarez...
Yeah...!
What he said (Steve Edwards).
Can't stand the git but would swap him for ANY of our picks in that position.

On this Suarez any idea why he has played such few games?
Not another croc I hope!

Well I wouldn't want the rat-faced cheat playing in the Royal Blue of Everton even if we got him on a free, much the same as I wouldn't want the newly appointed Sunderland Manager ever being our manager. Football is a game but it does influence attitudes and those two people are not the type of attitudes I want our youngster to emulate, winning isn't everything.

He's an absolute prick but I'd have Suarez at us any day of the week, he's got quality and hard graft with it aswell!. An all round top striker IMO.

As for Jeffren, sounds like a Moyes type of buy for me, a player who started out with a lot of potential and was thought a lot about and moved to get regular games but it hasn't quite worked out and he's had injuries and now possibly looking for a fresh challenge?!.

The lad looked a talent at Barca and this could be the kind of deal that would work wonders at us IMO. Probs would be cheap and if we could get him back on the right track then we would have a player on our hands.

Agreed Patrick.

As good as (Rat face) Suarez is, and he probably has been player of the season, I'm still glad we don't have him.

Whilst being a phenomenal footballer (where would the shite be in the table without him???) he remains a despicable human being and I would find it very hard to cheer someone like that.

If Suarez was ours and had singlehandedly got us 10 more points this season and challenging for the top spots then I think a few more of us would be prepared to forgive him being a complete bell-end. I think my line would be 'Oh, he's a loveable villain...'. As it is he's just a buck toothed abomination and a nasty piece of work.

'On 4 August 2011, Sporting Clube de Portugal signed Jeffrén for €3.75 million, plus €200,000 in bonus. He penned a 5-year contract with a buy-out clause of €30 million. In addition, If the Lisbon club sold the player for a fee higher than €3.75M, Barcelona would receive 20% of the added value/differential value. The Catalans also retained an exclusive buy-back option for €8million and €12 million, in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Jeffrén played his first official game with Sporting on 13 August, in a 1–1 home draw against SC Olhanense. He spent the vast majority of the first half of his first season sidelined with physical problems.

Jeffrén returned to action on 11 March 2012, and only needed 12 minutes on the pitch to score two goals in a 5–0 home win against Vitória de Guimarães.'

Seems he's only played so many games for Sporting cos of fitness issues but interestingly, Sporting bought him for €3.75M and IF they sell him for more, Barca get 20% of any fee, so I wonder if they'd sell him for the price they bought him for to keep hold of all the cash as there in financial difficulties?
