No deal for Adem Ljajic

Fiorentina have firmly denied reports Everton have reached an agreement to sign Adem Ljajic, according to Corriere Fiorentino.

Sources in Serbia claimed earlier this week that the Merseysiders had paved the way for a £6.8m summer transfer which would see the midfielder earn £1.7m a season. But Fiorentina have scotched such suggestions and will assess the Serbian's future at the end of the season.

Would he give us something extra to our current team? It would be ok if he was another Mirallas!

Anyone seen him play?

Never heard of him.

I think Utd were very close to getting him, they were supposed to get him with Tosic a couple of years ago.

Not sure why the deal didn't happen though, but he's an attacking, flairy player. We don't have enough of those.

He's a rightfooted, left winger with a lot of pace and a decent shot. doesnt like to cross too much but prefers to cut inside, which is ideal for playing with Baines. Possibly a long-term replacement for Pienaar if he does come in, which would be a great upgrade in my opinion while also lowering the starting 11's average age considerably.

£6.8mil does sound a little steep for a player approaching his final year in his contract though and £1.7million works out at about £35k a week which I can't see Everton offering a 21-year-old.

It looks unlikely but, if he does join, it would be a quality player with the ability to improve and be a key player for Everton for years to come (or wind down his contract and leave for Spurs on the cheap).

Ryan (#039), didn't we give Rodwell those kinds of wages at a younger age? I'm sure he was on a good crack when he signed a new 5-year deal at like 18 or 19?

Anyways, how you describe Ljajic is spot on and he's a decent little player and I think he could do a job off of the striker as well!

We have been linked to this lad for the past 3 transfer windows now and obviously to this day and I'm wondering if there is genuine legs to the interest in him?! I'm starting to believe we're really keen on the fella.

And if he's only got a year left on his current deal, then it could be a cheap summer addition, this one.

I watch a lot of Italian football. Suffice to say this boy has the goods. He's similar to Mirallas & Pienaar in that he's right footed, but can play anywhere accross the park. Very quick, so would probably suit being out wide, but that would allow Mirallas to play through the middle.

With Ossie & Pienaar not exactly young men, he'd be a cracking signing.

I remember the days when we were linked with/signed players I had heard of – Cottee, Beardsley, Whiteside etc. Now 90% of signings/ potential signings are players we just speculate about. Even the successful players for big money (Fellaini, Mirallas) are players who I know nothing about! How football has changed... I could look good on YouTube!

Watching him play against Milan now. He won a peno with a mazey run which he converted to make it 2-1. A playmaker dribbling type that we have no chance of buying.

Adem played for the national team of Serbia, but national team manager Sinisa Mihajlovic disposed them because he didnt'n sing anthem of Republic Serbia. Supposedly, manager introduce rule that everyone must sing anthem, but how one muslim guy can sing a national anthem which has text like some christian orthodox prayer. Ludicrous!
