No issues on my work computer and none on my home one - but I draw the line at Fellaini being in the top right hand corner - didn't he used to play for us, Lyndon? :) :)

Hello Lyndon!

After reading the article concerning the ' advertising ' and, voted accordingly. I have, in the recent past, seen other ' posters ' complaining of there being an ad for Liverpool FC in the top right, or right column. While not professing to be any sort of PC expert, far from it, I did comment at the time, that although they had my sympathy for the offending ad. that I felt then, and still do, that it had to be a browser issue.

I have never seen anything other than, the inevitable Adchoice ads on my system. By the way, I use Firefox. While I admit most forms of advertising, can be annoying they are a necessary evil.

Hope this may help you in your quest!

There is a very easy solution for all users of Moziila – simply download and install the add-on Adblock Plus – it's completely free and is working on all websites.

I used to have the same problem, since I am using it, there arent any adverts even on the live-stream links, which were so annoying.

You will see only the non-intrusive Google adds.

Lyndon the pop ups are annoying. None more so than the ad for the red shite.

But I have to say I commend you and Mike for producing such a entertaining and informative site.

Cheers boys keep it up.

Regarding the RS ads, they are, unfortunately, delivered based on our content (which will have references to "Premier League" and the city of Liverpool) and your own browsing habits (which, again, might have references to Liverpool, the place) by Google's algorithms.

I go in regularly to block the offending ads and add filters to weed out certain RS-related websites but, unfortunately, they do creep in before I can get to them.

It hopefully goes without saying that we don't sanction them!

Thanks, John.

I wonder if, even though the code was pulled 6 weeks ago, it could have left cookies that continue to do their annoying biz?

Steve (454) - Lynx are wasting their money imo.

Fact is, the small dating ad (often top right) featuring that Grafton sort wearing the coke-bottle glasses and sitting on the end of the bed, means you wouldn't go near Lynx, just in case there's any truth to their claims of it's power to, magnet-like, attract members of the opposite sex - specially ones who look like her!

Better safe than sorry type stuff.

I've been getting full-screen undertone ad's again for the last 4-5 days.

I originally got them back in the july - then they stopped when a few people complained (including me) at the time. But definitely they've started appearing again very recently.

MK: "I wonder if, even though the code was pulled 6 weeks ago, it could have left cookies that continue to do their annoying biz?"

That's exactly what I'm wondering. If anyone who sees them regularly wants to clear their cookies (i.e. delete all of them on their browser) and let us know if it helps, that would be great!

Obviously, it would affect other sites where your logins are cached where you might not want to have to keep entering your username and password, which is why using another browser for this exercise is useful.

I come on here several times a day and only see a small advert near bottom of page on home page on my windows phone and normally on windows laptop I get small adverts to right side, normally about cougars!!!

Never had problems on this site but you can get a lot of rubbish corrupting your laptop from streaming that stalks you whatever site you go on.

Hi Lyndon This has happened a number of times over the last month on my pc, the latest was today with a massive Halifax ad that took over the whole page. Rather annoying to say the least but rectified by going back and clicking on a tw subject quickly! I'll try deleting cookies history and see what happens. Cheers - keep up the great work!

Hi Lyndon,

Full page flash ads appear upon first initial page load.

I've tested this just now in incognito mode which would eliminate the cookie/cache issues and the same thing happens.

The ad provider is undertone, and it looks like somewhere in your code, the following url is being injected as a resource (fairly sure it is this which is serving the ad I am seeing):

http://ads.undertone.com/aj?&zoneid=59918&cb=96056109200&t=1378240199.828&fv=11.8.r800&x=40&y=0&sw=1440&sh=838&cw=1280&ch=656&loc=http%3A//www.toffeeweb.com/

Unless you've specifically added that code, then your new ad provider is most likely sliding them in as part of it's controller script. Very annoying...

Good luck getting it sorted - it's a pain as a site visitor!
Mark

I haven't had a problem but if Firefox is your browser of choice, they have a neat little add-on called Self-Destructing Cookies which enables you to choose which cookies you want to keep relevant. Click on the Tools menu and go to their Add-ons. Try it it's free and works well.

Yep! I recognise these ads from your site, thought I've never encountered them on any other site.

It may be interesting for you to know that I've definitely only been using your site since the 21st July 2013 (a friend heartily recommended the site during a night on the beer, so I defected from Bluekipper... don't get me started about that website!) Since I started visiting you, I'd say on 80% of the occasions that I visit here I experience these ads.

They only ever appear on the screen when I first arrive at your home page, taking over the whole screen with only a small 'cross' in the top right corner to close the ad. Once closed the ad doesn't reappear on any subsequent pages. It also appears to be one consistent company advertising at any one time; the initial advertiser seems to have stopped (can't remember who they were), with Halifax ads taking over in recent days. Also, the ad just seems to appear on the screen automatically, so it's not like it's a response to me jogging a mouse over an ad. To be honest, until I saw your post, I'd thought it was normal. Final thing to say, if it helps, I browse using Google Chrome. Next time I see one I will take a screen shot and email it to you.

On final thing to say is that I'm very impressed with the site. The coverage is timely and professional, with diverse, insightful viewpoints, good analysis and some excellent columns. I for one wouldn't mind seeing the lads, who put such obvious hard graft into a nice community site like this, making a bob or two, so if you can't get rid of the ads, no harm done - I'll just keep closing them! Keep up the great work.

Get the exact same as Mark (487) the undertone ads when first coming onto toffeeweb, had a background ad for what looked like Ladbrokes under the main white content area (the two grey blue sides became the advert) through the week too.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

Based on the descriptions above, these ads are following the one-ad-per-visit convention so the cookie tells the browser not to show it again for the life of the browser session.

Is anyone seeing the ad on a page where the homepage WASN'T the first page they viewed after opening up their browser?

In other words, could someone try closing their browser down and then going to an interior page, like www.toffeeweb.com/news/ as the first page they visit on the site?

Hi Lyndon,
I have closed browser and loaded page as suggested directly as URL and had no problem with Firefox or Windows explorer.
In Firefox there is an option to turn off pop-ups by going to Tools/Options/Content and clicking on the Block pop-Up windows option

In Explorer you can go to the Tools dropdown and Pop-UP Blocker and Turn on/Off Pop-Up Blocker

For the other browsers, just Google to get the blocker instructions. These options will just stop them but best as you say to stop them at source if at all possible.

Congratulations and many thanks on the way you are running the site. It was a great night last night watching the comments in tandem with the goings on on Sky Sports News. Very entertaining and of course scripted for us like one of BK's West End Productions. Keep up the good work.

Upon further investigation into this, I discovered the answer as to why the number of people seeing these ads has increased in recent days. In preparing the site for deadline day, I made a number of changes to the code that somehow included me copying the old, offending ad code back into the code on the homepage. Idiot.

I have now removed that code (again!) so could I ask anyone who has been seeing pop-up ads on the site in the last few days to try closing their browser, reopening it, loading the homepage again and then report on whether you still see these intrusive ads?

Hi Lyndon I'm currently using Internet Explore on the slowest oldest Laptop in the world due to my Desktop machine crashing on Sunday and immediately sent to the repair shop. Like everybody else I was getting that Lnyx advert. But just now I had a message from IE that it had prevented what it called 'Cross-Site Services' this may be usual as I'm used to using Firefox on my Normal Machine. Hopefully I will get my Desktop back as this laptop is so slow it's as frustrating as the transfer window.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a Lynx ad but not sure if it was on here. Not had any full screen ads today.

Don't mind these ads anyway, you can just click it to get rid of it. Sometimes there are even some ads that are informative and therefore welcome.

If you want to talk about truly intrusive marketing, you have door to door selling and cold sales calls. On the latter, the ones that really piss me off are the automated ones- now they should be banned...

PS great site, keep up the good work.
