USA and Costa Rica book their place in Brazil

Tim Howard helped the United States secure qualification for next year's World Cup Finals in Brazil with a 2-0 win over Mexico. He will be joined by Bryan Oviedo and Costa Rica who also booked passage from the CONCACAF qualifying region.

The Americans recovered from defeat in Costa Rica on Friday to get back to winning ways thanks to goals by Eddie Johnson and ex-Blue Landon Donovan. The result puts Mexico in danger of missing out on the Finals.

Elsewhere, Phil Jagielka played in England's 0-0 snoozer in Ukraine, Steven Naismith was on target in Scotland's 2-1 win in Macedonia, while James McCarthy and Seamus Coleman couldn't prevent the Republic of Ireland from going down to a 1-0 defeat to Austria all but ending their hopes.
