Barry heads back to school

Blues' star Gareth Barry and Everton legend Graeme Sharp paid a visit to a local school in St Helens today to talk to students about how their ambitions as youngsters helped shape their careers.

Barry got involved in a series of group tasks at Haydock High School in St Helens to answer questions about life as a Premier League footballer and offered advice to the teenagers on how they can reach their goals in life.

The Everton midfielder also took part in a football coaching session with the children, delivered by Everton in the Community.

The Everton in the Community coaches took the time to speak to the students about the different work they do throughout the community and the opportunities that they offer to young people across Merseyside.

One of the areas they covered was the successful apprenticeship programme they run which covers a number of roles including; Multi-Sports Coaches, Disability Coaches, PE Technicians and many more.

Gareth Barry said of the school visit: “It's always great being able to give something back to the local community and Graeme and I really enjoyed our visit to Haydock High School.

“I think the students especially enjoyed the coaching session and learning more about the opportunities that Everton in the Community offer to young people like themselves.”
