Atkinson to oversee Anfield derby

In a controversial move, the FA have appointed Martin Atkinson as referee for Everton's clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday week.

Atkinson joined the roll of Merseyside derby infamy when he sent off Jack Rodwell in 2011 for a perfectly legal challenge on the reds' Luis Suarez, a red card that was later rescinded.

Atkinson was accused of ruining the match, one the Blues would go on to lose after being forced to play three quarters of the contest with 10 men.
