Adding injury to insult

As if the scoreline from Anfield, on the back of numerous injuries to key Everton players, wasn't enough, Romelu Lukaku left the match on a stretcher with suspected ankle ligament damage.

The Belgian was injured defending the corner from which Liverpool scored their first goal as Gareth Barry fell on his ankle which was in a cast by the end of the evening.

Roberto Martinez said after the match that the club's medical staff will assess the injury but admitted that "it looked pretty bad." If, as expected, Lukaku has injured his ankle ligaments, it's likely he will be sidelined for a period of weeks, leaving the team without a senior out-and-out striker.
