Ivorian suffers fresh injury setback
Everton have provided an update on Lacina Traore, confirming that that striker will be out for a period of weeks after tearing his hamstring in the warm-up at Chelsea last Saturday.

After being forced to wait to make his Everton bow because of a hamstring strain in his other leg, the Ivorian had been set to make his Premier League debut after starting the cup tie against Swansea. He is now out for what Roberto Martinez described as "weeks rather than months" with this fresh soft-tissue injury which will severely curtail his involvement in the remainder of the Blues' season.

“It is going to take a long period of time which at this stage of the season will be a big miss," Martinez told evertontv. "It will be weeks rather than months.

“It's a really disappointing outcome. He was ready and had been working really hard since he arrived at the club. Starting the game at Chelsea was the next target after Swansea and for him to pull his hamstring in the last action of the warm-up was a really disappointing moment."

Everton will work with his parent club Monaco over how best to treat the injury.

"It is going to take a long period of time which at this stage of the season will be a big miss,” Martinez continues, though he can at least take heart from the fact that Romelu Lukaku is expected to be back in the side this weekend after a month out himself with an ankle injury.

“Romelu has been working really well and he is looking fresh and ready. We are all very excited to see him back enjoying his football with really top energy levels,” the Spaniard concludes.
