Tim Howard, Kevin Mirallas, Romelu Lukaku, James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman, Aiden McGeady, Steven Naismith and John Stones were all in action for their countries this evening.

Howard played the full 90 minutes for the USA as they lost 2-0 to Ukraine, while McCarthy played an hour — he scored an own goal — and McGeady 72 minutes for the Republic of Ireland in their 2-1 defeat to Serbia.

Mirallas was withdrawn by Belgium after 62 minutes of their friendly against Ivory Coast and Lukaku came on for the last 20 minutes.

Naismith played the second half for Scotland as they beat Poland 1-0.

Stones played for England U21s, while Ross Barkley and Leighton Baines were on the bench for the senior England team for their friendly against Denmark at Wembley but didn't see any action.

Finally, former Blues midfielder, Tim Cahill, became Australia's all-time top scorer with two goals against Ecuador at The New Den. His night was soured, though, as the 10-man Socceroos gave up a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3, with his former Everton teammate, Segundo Castillo, finding the net in the second half.
