Alan Stubbs's Everton U21s took on Liverpool U21s at Southport this evening, with Magaye Gueye, Ty Browning, George Green and Chris Long in the starting XI.

The Blues lost Long to injury after just 10 minutes, though, following an aerial collision with Fulton in the Liverpool goal. Lussey then headed the Reds into the lead with 25 minutes gone.

Everton responded, Green going close with a shot over the bar and Long's replacement, Courtney Duffus, twice firing just wide shortly before the break.

The Blues were running out of time to get back on level terms in the second half when Ryan Ledson turned the ball home in the 85th minute to make it 1-1.

Substitute Calum Dyson came close to winning it at the end but volleyed wide.

Everton U21s: Taudul; Jones, Touray, Browning; Kenny, Ledson, Grant (79' Dyson), Williams; Gueye, Green (73' Langton), Long (10' C Duffus).
Unused subs: Griffiths, Charsley
