Ledson and Kenny through to European Championships final

Captain Ryan Ledson and his Everton team-mate Jonjoe Kenny are through to the U17 European Championships final after England beat Portugal 2-0 this afternoon.

John Peacock's men booked their place in Wednesday's final thanks to goals by Dominic Solanke and Patrick Roberts and some fortune as Portugal twice hit the woodwork.

The Portuguese had recorded a 3-1 win over England in August while the two nations had played out a 2-2 draw in the Algarve tournament in February but this time it was the Young Lions who emerged the victors after Peacock had reverted to the line-up that had beaten Turkey in the opening game of this tournament.

England will face the Netherlands, who beat them 2-0 in the final group game last Thursday, in the final after the Dutch youngsters demolished Scotland 5-0 in the other semi.
