Everton ladies denied cup glory

Everton Ladies' bid for a third FA Cup was foiled at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes today after Arsenal Ladies beat them 2-0 with a goal in each half.

Both teams were hoping to use cup glory as a catalyst to their league form as they have both made poor starts to the league season — Arsenal are bottom of the table and Everton are just one place above them — and it was the London side that came through in fairly comfortable fashion.

The Blues fell behind after 15 minutes to a 15th-minute free kick by Kelly Smith and trailed 1-0 at half time.

They then fell further behind in the second half when Yukari Kinga fired home to make it 2-0 with an hour gone.
