When I was at school I ran a football team comprised of both Blues and Reds. We called ourselves Liverton United as it sounded better than Everpool and it seemed like fate when I moved to a village called Liverton in Devon a couple of years ago.

The obsession with Everton FC is worse now than at any time since 1963 when I started supporting the Blues and I am awaiting Saturday with trepidation and anticipation. The former is down to our poor run of form and the feeling that Creasehead will go out on a high against us. The latter because I always think we have a chance and we can win this game but only if everything is right on the day.

Roberto has to pick the right team for a start and then let them get stuck in. If only we had players like Collins, Kay, Bally, Ratters, Nev, Mick Lyons, Dunc, Reid, Andy Gray and Sharpy – players who would fight all day for the club. Besic, Naismith and McCarthy apart, I cannot see which players are going to be up for this to the extent that they will keep going in adversity.

This is where the crowd come in. Goodison can be a poor crowd in a crisis and, if the crowd goes quiet, I cannot see how the players will find the fight and inspiration to keep at Liverpool. If, however the supporters are really "on it" and kick up a tremendous racket, even if we go a goal down, then we might just inspire the players, who are unlikely to be able to do it on their own given their recent poor form.

All of the above players were able to lift the team by their own efforts and boy do we need some of that now. I well recall having to go into school on the Wirral the Monday after a defeat by Liverpool and it was sheer hell – I wasn't allowed to forget about it for at least a week and even today the entire weekend is ruined if we lose at all, let alone to that shower.

It hurts to recall 0-4 last year, even worse the Creasehead hat-trick or Ian Rush doing us over and over again. I cling onto Sharpy's stunner in 1984 and dream that we can do it again.

So come on, all you Blues, no matter what the team selection, regardless of whether you are for or against Roberto (I am for), shout until you have no voice left on Saturday and see if we can inspire our boys to a win – just think what a happy site ToffeeWeb will be if we do!

Well said, Dave. I mentioned on a thread earlier in the week that the crowd need to be up for this. Take off the anti Roberto glasses for 90 minutes and get behind the boys. The Redshite are there to be got at in the back line so the hostile (bearpit) atmosphere can really work for us. COYB
