Why John Stones should resist a big move to spend another season at Everton

One of the many voices advocating that the 21-year-old defender stay put rather than be tempted by the Champions' overtures this summer, Alex Zaia writes:

Another season at Everton would allow Stones to continue to grow in stature by being able to guarantee his starting place week-in and week-out. Stones has yet to play a full season in the Premier League, and barring injury, will be an integral part of Martinez’s Everton spine for this term.

If Stones does stay put, another beneficiary of this decision would be the England national team, as they continue to re-build their squad ahead of Euro 2016 next summer. Playing regularly at Everton this season would significantly boost Stones’s chances of breaking his way into Roy Hodgson’s plans, as uncertainty remains as to who will be the 67-year-old’s preferred defensive pairing for the tournament.

I think one of the main problems is the fact most of the big clubs will treble Stones's wages instantly, not to mention his chunk of the signing on fee.

Maybe we could up his wages ourselves to around £50,000 a week to show loyalty and in turn ask for him to sign an extension on his deal to take him up to 5 or 6 years from the 4 he already has left?

He certainly has a strong hand now if he were to re negotiate a new contract. I think he will stay for the season at least and if we have a good season ie top 4 he may well stay. However if we have a season like last we have no chance of keeping him next window but his price will have increased significantly and we will cash in.

I agree Ben, the fact he will be an England stater by the end of the season, playing in the Euros, will boost his value too.

We have a strong hand to play ourselves this time too.
