Late Tarkowski strike steals a point at Bournemouth

Premier League: Bournemouth 1 - 1 Everton

Everton make the long trip down south to face Bournemouth in the second Premier League game of the season, with fans rocked by the prospect that Harrison Armstrong will be sold. 

The young midfield star, who has become a massive favourite among Everton fans, is in the squad today despite huge rumours to the contrary.

Meanwhile, The Toffees will be looking to maintain the dominant form displayed across the week, with the comfortable 2-0 win against Crystal Palace at Hill Dickinson Stadium starting the season off strong. That was followed by the solid win at Preston in midweek.

First Half

Everton in their second (Spurs?) kit kicked off with Dewsbury-Hall back to Pickford for the hoof upfield that sacrifices possession. The early moves contined this long range echange but Barry got an elbow in his eye and needed treatment. 

Truffert got behind Rohl but his cross was blocked; Kluivert tried from the other side: goal-kick, long hoof, turnover. Ndiaye got it back and dribbled forward before playing it out to George but his cross was overhit. 

Barry was shoved over by Hill, the free-kick from Branthwaite was headed down to Ndiaye who completely failed with his strike on the ball, before Everton won thrie first corner. Dewsbury-Hall, a superb delivery, a fantastic header by Branthwaite but somehow Petrovic incredibly got a had to it! 

The corner from the other side was less effective but Dewsbury-Hall put in a goal-bound shot that was blocked in the 6-yard area. A soft Branthwaite challenge was punished with a free-kick, delivered by Tavernier, that won a corner. It was delivered well, curling in at the near post, Pickford alert to punch in away from under the crossbar.

Ryan somehow got free and raced in on goal, Pickford saving with his foot for another corner, Pickford getting pushed over but Everton broke away, Barry stalled a bit too easily by Scott and pushed wide.

Great work from George set up Ndiaye who hit it accuratley toward the corner, but far too weakly, pushed behind by Petrovic. Dewsbury-Hall went for a conversion from the corner, wellying high over the goal.

Coming the other way, Rohl did enough to prevent Truffert from crossing in, and Everton came forward, Dewsbury-Hall working it for George who shot, it bounced up and off Petrovic, but Barry, there for the tap-in, just could not get oot around the keeper. 

Scott slid in dangerously on Dewsbury-Hall: yellow card. But the free-kick was poor. Armstrong was blown for a foul when he clearly got the ball. Rayan made a tremendous dipping strike, 2 feet over the bar.

Smith body-checked George and he too got a yellow card. Garner's free-kick came to nothing and The Toffees tried to work it around again but lost possession. A good counter saw Kluivert fire in a powerful shot that Pickford stopped, both teams showing good attacking intent.

Tarkowski tried one of his long balls over the top for Dewsbury-Hall but it was tracked and cleared.  Ndiaye stole a loose ball and George had another shot but missed the target.

Garner lost the ball in defence and Scott pounced but Garner was back very  quickly to block his cross behind, with the corner being cleared. But the Cherries came again, Rayan winding up but his shot well blocked. Tavernier was next to advance and curl one over the top corner of Pickford's goal.

A tremendous interception by Garner denied a shooting chance to Scott, Bouurnemouth wrongly demanding a free-kick, Scott would get that at the other end when he was pushed over by Rohl. 

Dewsbury-Hall thought he could play in Ndiaye but Petrovic read the danger and was out very quickly. But Everton had a good spell of pressure without creating a real chance. 

Everton worked it around again but George was turned over a bit too easily by Rayan on George and the counter saw Tarkowski chasing a ball out wide that was welll worked for Scott to drive home a low shot beyond Pickford through three defenders after Evanilson had bamboozled them. 

George tried to put in a low cross that was blocked behind but Garner's corner did not beat the first defender. 

A tremendous turnover on Rayan forced by Branthwaite saw Dewsbury-Hall advance through midfield and play in Barry for a huge chance but he drove his shot into the side netting. 

A very competitive first half saw Everton's finishing limitations well exposed as it was the hosts who had grabbed the vital first goal.

Second Half

The game restarted in pouring rain and it was a bit scrappy, Everton benefitting from a giveaway, Armstrong driving forward and playing in Barry who looked certain to score but Petrovic had other ideas. Another chance gone begging.

Rohl forced a turnover and got Ndiaye running down the wing, Tavernier fouling Rohl off the ball for a yellow card.  Ndiaye tried hard to press the defence but was called for a foul. 

George played in a nice ball for Dewsbury-Hall who was backed into and tripped by Hall; surely a penalty? No. Everton were furious.

Bournemouth had a decent attack, Kluivert's shot blocked. Garner lost the ball and the Everton defence were running back in panic, a brilliant lunge from Armstrong pushing the ball wide. 

The tempo had increased markedly but Garner was making mistakes and his name went in the book for a foul on Tavernier. More Bournemouth pressure won a corner that was headed clear as Moyes readied changes on the hour mark. 

Mykolenko found Johnson with a cross but he had stepped just offside. Mykolenko tried again, but this one was wayward. Everton were trying hard but were unable to replicate the attacking play of the firts half.

When Everton did get the chance with a good turnover, Dewsbury-Hall was left to run on his own, with Barry way across field and not showing himself for what should have been a golden ball. 

Bournemouth kept probing, and some great defending was required. But when Rohl got forward, his cross went straight to a defender. Time for changes to both sides. 

Bournemouth forced another corner, headed at the near post by Silva. Everton were tiring and Rohl took his eye off the ball. But good work by Ndiaye looked to have set up Beto, Silva somehow getting his foot in to give away a corner. 

Everton kept up the press but when the ball came to Beto, he crossed it to no one and Bournemouth countered, winning a corner, Pickford somehow collecting it.

Everton worked it down the right wing, Rohl forcing a corner but nothing came from it. and Bournemouth countered, Rayan's shot saved at full stretch by Pickford but only out to Evanilson whose shot also needed saving. 

Bournemouth came close seconds later, after Pickford could only punch the ball in the air, causing panic and almost conceding. From the corner, Evanilson headed just wide.

Rohl lost the ball again, and Bournemouth won a free-kick. Rohl again lost the ball too easily to Scott but Everton forced a counter and Dewsbury-Hall, got the ball through to Beto but his execution of the shot was simply pathetic. 

Dewsbury-Hall, tried to drive forward again but Scott tackled him very well to win the ball and get Bournemouth attacking again, two brilliant blocks from Mykolenko preventing a certain second goal. Two late subs from Moyes, with only 4 minutes left. 

Iroegbunam fouling his man within seconds of coming on.  Mykolenko tried to pick out Johnson but Truffert got there first. Alcaraz powere dto the bye line and ciut back a superb ball but Ndiaye had not anticipated it.

An Everton corner. and somehow it falls to James Tarkowski (90+2') who thinks "What the hell?" and he smashes it into the far corner, a wonderful strike from the Everton captain! 

Everton created another chance to counter but Dewsbury-Hall was again not supported properly. Alcaraz gave away a free-kick but Pickford snatched it out of the air and the referee blew the whistle on a great game with Tarkowski stealing a draw and a point from the jaws of defeat in added time.
