Ex-Blue Carsley not looking for full-time managerial role

Lee Carsley says that he has no desire to remain as Brentford's manager beyond this season, preferring to go back to coaching rather than stay in a role he doesn't feel cut out for.

The ex-Everton midfielder was appointed as the Bees' interim boss on Monday following the departure of Marinus Dijkhuizen but speaking after his team's 2-0 home defeat to Birmingham City the following evening, Carsley made it clear that he doesn't want the job on a permanent basis.

"I did not ask to be a football manager and it certainly wasn't something I put my hand up for. I don't want the job permanently," he said.

I have no sympathy for Brentford whatsoever. They treat Warburton who took them from League 1 to within 3 games of the Premier League on a mid table budget disgracefully, go all continental and appoint a virtually unknown, unproven manager from a mid table Dutch club, and expect him to get promoted from a league which is one of the most difficult to get out of, that he had no experience in at all, then sack him after 8 league games?

Absolutely ridiculous. And it shows how trigger happy chairmen are and they've paid the price. On top of that they've appointed a man as his replacement who has openly admitted that he doesn't want the role, never wanted to be a manager in the first place, and in all likelihood will be out of his depth in an unforgiving league.

Meanwhile Warburton is walking the Scottish Championship with Rangers and is probably looking at this farce with a smile thinking 'If only you kept me on'

I think Brentford are probably going to be an outside bet for relegation this year. It probably wouldn't surprise me if they did to be honest and after the way they treated Warburton and his replacement, they probably deserve it.

This is a man who in my opinion was a fantastic player for Everton but is also a credit to his profession.

Great post, Ross. Thanks for all the details. Not surprised True Blue Lee doesn't want the job. Pity we couldn't find something for him up here.
