updated Though it was claimed Roberto Martinez retained an interest in defender Angelo Ogbonna, the Italian looks set for a move to West Ham.

The Liverpool Echo insisted that the 27-year-old has very much been an Everton target this summer despite the Hammers are leading the chase, with Ogbonna flying into London this week to discuss a reported £8m move.

The Daily Mail, meanwhile, suggested that the player's agent had contact with both clubs and that both Juventus and Ogbonna's representatives could be making a decision as early as today. Everton are not believed to have ever been after him in the first place, however.

Southampton are also said to be interested in a player whom reports tried ti claim Martinez saw as an ideal replacement for the departed Sylvain Distin.

Emerging Under-21 defender Brendan Galloway is being groomed for the role over the long term but Martinez has indicated that he foresees the 19-year-old cutting his teeth in the Premier League at left back at Everton while there have also been suggestions that he could be loaned out this coming season.

Ogbonna has played 41 times for Juve since he arrived from Torino two years ago and the Echo report claims that the Italian club are after €10m with €2m in add-ons for the player.
