McCarthy 'asks to leave' Everton

The Irish international has been a staple for tabloid fodder in recent weeks, with the red tops routinely suggesting he is unhappy that promises of a new contract with the Blues have not been fulfilled.

McCarthy has been linked with Tottenham and now Arsenal despite openly telling the media just three months ago that he is perfectly happy at Goodison Park.

"I am happy here. Nothing has changed from day one," he said at the end of April. "I love it and I am still loving life. The media has done a few stories but I am delighted to be here and I have many years still to come.”
