New contracts for McCarthy and Mirallas

Tony Barrett of The Times leads suggestions that Everton are hoping to conclude a new five-year contract for McCarthy with the Daily Mail claiming that negotiations were re-opened with the midfielder this week aimed at fending off interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

They contend that the 24-year-old Ireland international could complete the paperwork as early as today.

Mirallas, meanwhile, will also extend his current contract after the Blues rejected a £6m offer from West Ham.

The reports suggest that the Belgian, who has two years remaining on his existing deal, has opted to commit his future to Everton despite voicing his desire earlier this year for Champions League football.
