Reports: Shaqiri saga nearing an end

Updated Xherdan Shaqiri looks to be Premier League bound with reports claiming the forward has opted for a permanent move to Stoke City after all.

Everton have been linked with the Swiss international on and off for weeks and sources in Switzerland and Italy suggested earlier today that Inter Milan had now received bids from both Stoke and Everton for Shaqiri.

The offer from Goodison Park appears to be for a season-long loan while the Potters have had a permanent deal on the table since last month, one which the player initially rejected out of hand.

In the interim, Shaqiri has seen a proposed move to Schalke fall through, leaving him facing the prospect of spending the coming campaign on Inter's bench after a disappointing 2014-15 season with the club. Proof of the 23-year-old's u-turn came when he was captured by television cameras sitting in the executive boxes at the Britannia Stadium for Stoke's 1-0 defeat to Liverpool this afternoon.

A source from Blick in Switzerland claims he met with Everton representatives as well this weekend, with Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio lending further credence to the reports when he said that Shaqiri has deals in the offing from both teams and that he was "leaning towards Everton".

That no longer appears to be the case, with Di Marzio subsequently announcing that Stoke are now in the driving seat to land the former Bayern Munich player with the offer of a permanent contract, rumoured to be for £70,000 a week. That arrangement would suit Inter better, too, as they look to generate the funds to finally land Ivan Perisic from Wolfsburg.

Another potential spanner in the works is Borussia Dortmund who have emerged as late suitors for Shaqiri and Gazetta TV report that he could leave Stoke dangling a few days longer to see if the German outfit follow through on their interest if Jakub Blaszczykowski leaves them this week.
