Everton 'consider' move for Ron Vlaar

Everton are reportedly weighing up offering ex-Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar a contract to add cover at centre half.

The Dutch international has been without a club since his contract at Villa Park expired this past summer and he has been in rehabilitation for a serious knee injury.

He is believed to have had offers from Turkey, Germany and Italy – both Milan clubs have been credited with interest in his services recently – but may find the option of remaining in the Premier League attractive.

Capped 31 times by his country, the ex-Feyenoord man's meniscus tear was the latest of a number of injuries that have restricted his playing time but he was routinely a first-choice starter for Villa when fit.

He would represent somewhat of a gamble given his injury record but, assuming he is interested, it is one Roberto Martinez might be prepared to take on a free agent who offers plenty of experience at centre half where the Blues will be missing Phil Jagielka until the end of next month.
