Everton move for Byram

Roberto Martinez is ready to try again to land Sam Byram from Leeds United with reports claiming Everton are readying a £3m bid for him.

The Blues are believed to have made a serious attempt to sign the sought-after fullback in the summer transfer window but couldn't get a deal over the line amid competition from other clubs and the Yorkshire club's desire to maximise their return. Chairman Massimo Cellino apparently wants £5m for one of his most saleable assets.

Byram is out of contract this summer and Leeds risk losing him for just a development fee determined by tribunal unless they sell him this month. Based purely on newspaper speculation, Everton would appear to be in pole position to secure the 22-year-old before the deadline.

The Toffees' head of recruitment, Ian Atkins, was reportedly at Portman Road to watch Byram and Leeds take on Ipswich on Tuesday evening.
