MLS interest in signing Howard

ESPN say that according to their sources, the MLS club are "attempting to acquire" the 36-year-old after getting the "top spot in the MLS allocation order from the Chicago Fire during Thursday's MLS SuperDraft," which essentially means they have the jump on rival MLS sides to land Howard.

Upon signing his new four-year contract with the Blues two years ago, Howard said that he had closed the door on finishing his career in his home country but with his recent form coming under scrutiny in the Premier League, he might be persuaded to change his mind.

18 Jan After the official site for MLS carried the same story, suggesting there might be some foundation to this story, speculation around Howard has intensified following Colorado's decision to trade goalkeeper Clint Irwin to Toronto FC, a move that opens up a vacancy between the posts for the Rapids.
