A rumour posted by a Reddit user suggesting that the acquisition of Everton FC by the group led by former San Diego Padres owner John Jay Moores is the latest to that effect to spread on social media.

Reddit user kackjelly's post to the community website that has caused the latest stir was as follows:

“I live in Texas and my friend (who is not a football fan in the least so no need to make anything up) just texted me asking if I was an Everton fan and that her boss just bought them. Her boss is former San Diego Padres owner John Moores.”

It's not the only claim from someone who works at one of Moores's software companies that the JMI Services takeover is a done deal and it comes in the wake of rumours that Everton chairman Bill Kenwright penned a heartfelt letter to the club's employees recently thanking them for their hard work.

That has been taken by some as a hint that either he has finally managed to sell Everton or that he could be stepping away from his role as Chairman due to ill health. A die-hard fan who habitually attended all home games, Kenwright has been a notable absentee from Goodison Park over the last few months which has been fodder for the rumour mill.
