According to a report in The Sunday Times a Chinese consortium is apparently ready to step into contention to buy Everton should the US group led by John Jay Moores not proceed with its proposed takeover.

Moores and his JMI Services-led investors are reportedly undertaking a six-week-long period of due diligence, with conflicting rumours bubbling away that, on the one hand, they will not be buying out Everton's major shareholders while on the other, negotiations are still ongoing.

Suggestions that there is third-party interest in Everton from the Middle East has also surfaced in recent weeks, none of it corroborated thus far.

Note: At the request of a representative of JMI Equity, references to that firm have been changed to JMI Services, an independently managed firm. While John Moores was one of the principal, early investors in JMI Equity he no longer has operational involvement in that concern.
