Monaco are also said to be in the mix for the 22-year-old whom scouts from the Blues have apparently watched on a number of occasions over the past couple of years.

Silva was linked strongly with Everton in the summer of 2014 but nothing came of the speculation regarding a player who reputedly has a hefty release clause in his contract with his Portuguese club.

Silva has 10 goals in 78 League appearances over the past three seasons, has been capped five times by the Portuguese national side and was a part of his country's World Cup squad in Brazil.
