Martinez watches Yarmolenko against City

The Everton boss was in attendance at the Etihad Stadium for last night's Champions League Round of 16 second leg between Manchester City and Dynamo Kiev where he would have been able to watch transfer target Andriy Yarmolenko.

The 26-year-old returned to action following a medial knee ligament injury in the first leg which the Ukrainian side lost 3-1 and he played the full 90 minutes again but was unable to get his team back into the tie as the second game ended 0-0.

As Phil Kirkbride's scouting report for the Liverpool Echo described, Yarmolenko started out on the wing where he was a peripheral figure before being moved up front later in the match. He had one tame shot on goal and missed with a free header later where he was rightly flagged offside.

Everton failed with a bid to sign the Ukraine star last August after Kiev's owner Igor Surkis decided against selling him before his club's Champions League campaign but he is expected to grant Yarmolenko his wish to move to a bigger league this summer.

The Blues are believed to still be interested but could face competition from the likes of Arsenal.
