Conte wants Lukaku to return to Chelsea

Finally confirming football's latest open secret, Antonio Conte has officially been unveiled as Chelsea's new manager and will reportedly target Romelu Lukaku to lead his attack from next season.

That the claim in The Independent, anyway, who don't offer much in the way of supporting evidence.

Lukaku admitted again to the media during the last international break that he feels ready to play Champions League football from next season and could leave Everton this summer in search of it.

Chelsea won't be able to offer that to the Belgian until autumn 2017 at the earliest but the prospect of returning to the team he supported as a boy and joined as a raw 16-year-old combined with the Londoners' presumably enhanced prospects under Conte could persuade Lukaku to return to Stamford Bridge.

It would take a massive fee – not to mention the buy-in of owner Roman Abramovich, who off-loaded him to Goodison for £28m in July 2014 – of course and Everton will do all they can to resist offers for their leading scorer.
