Carrick speculation persists

14/04/2016  0 Comment  [Jump to last]

Andy Hunter of The Guardian, a journo with closer sources on Merseyside than most, suggests that Roberto Martinez is eyeing the Manchester United veteran as an alternative — not replacement, mind you — to the also aged Gareth Barry.

Carrick turns 35 this year and is not expected to be offered a new deal at Old Trafford, although it hasn't been ruled out.

The fact that the same story has appeared on the websites of all of the Daily Mail. The Mirror and the Express on the same night suggests, however, that this is a deliberately leaked story, perhaps by Carrick's agent rather than the result of genuine inside sources at Goodison.
