Everton have "stepped up" their supposed interest in Germany U21 'keeper Loris Karius according to a Sunday tabloid report.

The Sunday People claim that the 22-year-old Mainz stopper has been identified as a potential long-term successor to Tim Howard who departs for MLS outfit Colorado Rapids this summer.

Karius, who was once on Manchester City's books as a teenager, has two years left on his current contract and would, according to the report, command a fee of around £10m.
