Guardiola eyes €50m Stones

In what is likely to be a theme for the summer, John Stones is frequently being linked with a move to Manchester City with their incoming boss planning on rebuilding his new team team from the back.

According to a report by Bilboa-based El Correo in Spain, Pep Guardiola is considering triggering Athletic defender Aymeric Laporte's £50m release clause but they also mention an offer may already have been made to Everton for Stones for the same amount.

Due to his age and huge potential, Stones remains hot property despite struggling to repeat his impressive form in 2014-15 as the Blues' form has continued to falter this season.

Roberto Martinez refused point blank to sell the 21-year-old to Chelsea last August but even were the Catalan's future not in doubt as the close season approaches, Everton's resolve will likely be tested again where Stones is concerned and City will no doubt hand Guardiola the war chest he needs to bring in his top targets.
