Mourinho off the table as United land their main

It was never really on the cards despite the reports and the rumours but Jose Mourinho will not now be the next Everton manager as reports claim Manchester United will announce the Portuguese as their next boss this week.

The axe looks set to fall on Louis van Gaal despite him having just steered United to their 12th FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace after extra time.

Talk of Mourinho taking the reins at Old Trafford has been in the air for weeks and he will officially take over from the Dutchman in July if reports are correct.

There were whispers that Mourinho's people had contacted Everton about the vacancy there in the wake of Roberto Martinez's sacking the Thursday before last but Farhad Moshiri and the Goodison Park board will have to shelve any interest in the former Chelsea manager.
