Former boss David Moyes is one of the potential candidates to have been contacted by Everton regarding the managerial vacancy at Goodison Park according to a local report.

Moyes was the favourite to take the reins at relegated Aston Villa this week after it was announced that ex-Blues CEO Keith Wyness had been appointed as the chief executive of the Midlands club but the Scottish manager turned down the opportunity.

Now the Liverpool Echo claim that Moyes has been contacted by Chairman Bill Kenwright, and while there are no specifics and no context is given, it is assumed it was in reference to possibly interviewing for the Everton job again. No talks have taken place, however, and privately the Scot is believed to be towards the bottom of any shortlist.

Kenwright is a known admirer of Moyes and there are other media reports from the last 24 hours suggesting he is on the club's list of candidates but reaction among supporters on social media and fan websites suggests he would be a hugely unpopular appointment with many Evertonians.

Moyes left Goodison Park in 2013 for Manchester United but lasted less than a year at Old Trafford before being sacked and then suffered a similar fate at Real Sociedad in Spain.
