Emery's buy-out clause adds fuel to speculation

A reported release clause in Unai Emery's contract at Sevilla, coupled with Monchi's imminent departure from the Spanish club, is fuelling talk of Everton's pursuit of the 44-year-old.

Emery, who led his team to a third successive Europa League trophy win when they beat Liverpool in Basel earlier this month, has been linked with the vacant manager's position at Goodison Park ever since Los Rojiblancos' triumph and the speculation has only increased following reports that Farhad Moshiri has held talks with his agent.

The fact that Monchi, Sevilla's director of football, is set to leave Sevilla and will therefore break up the Liga side's successful partnership has only added another dimension and Marca now report that Emery's buy-out clause will drop from €8m to €2m tomorrow.

If there is any truth to the reports of Everton's pursuit of Emery, it could be that Moshiri has been waiting for that change in Emery's contract situation before making him a formal offer.

The Sevilla boss has been in hospital this week undergoing surgery on his knee which would have precluded any direct negotiations over the past couple of days.
