Monchi tempted by Everton role

Sevilla's director of football, Monchi, is very interested in taking a similar role at Everton according to reports in Spain today which claim Farhad Moshiri would make €150m available to him for squad strengthening.

The 47-year-old has very much been in the news this week after it emerged that he had asked to leave the Spanish club for "personal reasons" despite having four years left on his current contract. Sevilla subsequently turned that request down and Monchi had reportedly decided to stay with Los Rojiblancos.

Sport.es report that Monchi has been surprised by Sevilla's insistence that his €5m release clause be honoured after 16 years' service to the club, particularly since he first made known his interest in trying his hand in the Premier League 18 months ago with visits to London.

Now it's being suggested that he wants the Everton job, perhaps to retain his partnership with Unai Emery who continues to be linked as a replacement for Roberto Martinez, and isn't giving up the on possibility but it will take either him or Everton to pay the ~£3.8m to trigger his release.

Any strong desire on Farhad Moshiri's part to land the pair — and there are suggestions on Merseyside that this is the case — could, of course, tell in the end if he is prepared to stump up the money to secure an exciting dual ticket of both Emery and Monchi for around £5m.
