The Catalan giants' sporting director Robert Fernandez admits that they have been aware of the Everton defender for a while but have no plans to approach the Blues about his availability.

"He's a good player and we've known him well for a long time, but we're not going to sign him this summer," Fernandez said after taking in Argentina's 4-1 win over Venezuela in the Copa America yesterday.

Fernandez's presence at Gillette Stadium had sparked speculation he might be scouting the 25-year-old but, according to ESPN, he was there to watch Lionel Messi and to have talks with Javier Mascherano over his Barça future.
