Everton eye Chelsea's Begovic to replace Howard

Everton are again being linked with Asmir Begovic amid reports that Chelsea are looking to sign Diego Lopez from AC Milan.

The Blues were mentioned in connection with the Bosnian in February once it became increasingly likely that Tim Howard would move on this summer and there are fresh reports that Ronald Koeman wants him to be his second goalkeeping acquisition of the summer.

To date, back-up 'keeper Maarten Stekelenburg is the only new player to join Everton at first-team level since Koeman was announced as the new manager but sources suggest the club is about to get their summer transfer business underway in earnest.

Begovic was signed by Jose Mourinho from Stoke City to provide competition for Thibault Courtois after Petr Cech left for Arsenal but the 29-year-old would likely view the arrival of Lopez as evidence that he needs to move on in order to have a better shot at first-team football.

An £8m move to Everton was mooted a few months ago when Roberto Martinez was still in charge at Goodison Park and the 6' 6" stopper would likely command a similar price now.
