Schmeichel interest called off following Walsh deal

Any interest Everton had in triggering Kasper Schmeichel's release clause at Leicester has been shelved following an agreement between the two clubs struck during negotiations over Steve Walsh's transfer to Goodison Park.

Reports suggest that the Blues have agreed not to attempt to sign players from the Foxes for an agreed period of time as part of the deal which saw Walsh take up a new Director of Football role at Everton this week.

Schmeichel was one of a number of goalkeepers who have been linked with a move to Goodison, with some outlets suggesting that Ronald Koeman was prepared to activate his £17m release clause.

If true, he would have to strike the title-winning 'keeper off the list as he seeks a first-choice goalkeeper to provide competition for Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg.
