The Portuguese international was rumoured to be on the verge of signing for the Blues earlier this month but nothing has come of those confident suggestions thus far.

He was reputed to have been recommended to Everton by Jorge Mendes and various reports claimed the Blues had lodged a bid of between £20m and £30m.

Now The Mirror say that Antonio Conte has identified the 24-year-old as an alternative to Radja Nainngolan who is proving difficult to pry away from Roma.
