Chelsea have lodged an increased offer for reported Everton target Kalidou Koulibaly according to outlets in Italy and England.

Sky Sports report that the deposed champions have upped their bid for the 6'-5" centre-half to £38m as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his defence but Napoli have yet to respond to their latest approach.

Claims in Italy earlier this month had it that Everton were prepared to go as high as £42m for Koulibaly, although that seemed to be dependent on the outcome of any pitch from Manchester City to sign John Stones.

Koulibaly's agent, Bruno Satin, told the media over the weekend that his client would not be extending his contract with Napoli and he confirmed the interest from both Chelsea and Everton.

A 25-year-old Senegal international, Koulibaly is one of the most highly-regarded defenders in Serie A and it looks like huge money will be required to sign him this summer.
