West Ham match Everton's interest in Gueye?

A report claiming Idrissa Gueye's proposed move to Everton is being held up by late interest from West Ham United is likely wide of the mark with ESPN FC saying the deal will be done within 24 hours.

The 26-year-old midfielder appeared to be odds-on to complete a transfer to Goodison Park late last week after Aston Villa manager Roberto di Matteo confirmed that the Blues had triggered his £7.1m release clause and that he expected the move to go through.

The Villans' new chairman Tony Xia has also weighed in, suggesting that by taking advantage of the clause in his contract that allows him to leave for more than it cost to buy him from Lille a year ago, Gueye is betraying them in the manner as Fabian Delph when he left for Manchester City.

While an 'exclusive' in the reprehensible and unreliable S*n newspaper suggested that Villa want to get more for Gueye now and that the Hammers are interested, ESPN claim that "sources close to the player" say that he is undergoing a medical today and that he expects to sign for the Blues "in the next 24 hours".
