Chelsea hand Everton ultimatum over Lukaku

Updated Chelsea have apparently told Everton's hierarchy that their next bid for Romelu Lukaku will be their last and that they won't be back next year to try for the Belgian again.

The Times make the claim that the Londoners will attempt to leverage the fact that the Toffees still owe them installments from Lukaku's £28m move from Stamford Bridge to Goodison Park two years ago as well as a previously unheard-of sell-on clause in that deal.

The report suggests that Chelsea would be due a cut of any sale of the striker to another club for a fee above £28m now that certain appearance and goalscoring milestones have been reached in his time with Everton.

Though numerous media reports have pegged Everton's asking price at £75m in recent weeks and The Guardian's Andy Hunter asserts that there has been no official offer, The Times say that Chelsea's final bid for the 23-year-old will be "less than £70m".

The Telegraph and a number of other outlets, meanwhile, have thrown Loic Remy in as a potential part-exchange option on the basis that Everton will be loathe to lose Lukaku so close to the start of the new season.

And the Evening Standard say that Lukaku is mulling whether or not to hand in a transfer request to force through a return to Chelsea, given that he does not want to anger Everton fans who have given him so much support.
