Witsel prepared to see out his contract at Zenit

It appears as though while the Belgian has had an offer on the table from Everton for weeks – Napoli were put out of the running early – he was holding out in the hope that he could agree terms with Juventus and that Zenit could come to an agreement with the Serie A giants but that has not been forthcoming.

The Russian club, who reportedly had a deal agreed in principal with Everton last month, now risk losing Witsel for free next summer but, for now, the endless speculation over a switch to Goodison can be put to rest if a report by rsports.ru is correct.
