Everton ready to move as Mata eyes Old Trafford exit

Juan Mata could be ready to leave Manchester United in search of first-team football, with a report by The Times adding fuel to the speculation that Everton have been in contact with the Red Devils over the course of summer regarding the Spaniard.

Mata, who played under Blues boss Ronald Koeman in his Valencia days, appears to have given life under Jose Mourinho, who sold him to United as Chelsea boss in 2014, another go but may now have decided that his best future lies elsewhere.

Everton have been linked with the midfielder for the past few weeks and sources on Merseyside had gone as far as to suggest that a deal worth £25m was imminent last month, only for nothing concrete to materialise from the rumours.

Chatter regarding Mata and a potential move to Goodison Park will be revived, however, now that Paul Hirst and Gary Jacob in the Times say that he will try to leave United, particularly following what appeared to be humiliation at Mourinho's hands in last weekend's Community Shield match.

Having been introduced as a substitute against Leicester City, Mata was subbed himself by the Portuguese.
